Akron rained out

Because of heavy rain in the area, the University of Akron's games Sunday at the Morehead State Tournament were cancelled. The Zips will play in their final tournament of the 2019 season on March 16 and 17 at the 2019 UT Martin Tournament in Martin, Tenn. UA will play doubleheaders against UT Martin and Green Bay on Saturday and Sunday.

 

BASEBALL

WVU sweeps KSU

Host West Virginia completed a three-game weekend sweep of Kent State with a 9-7 win over the Golden Flashes on Sunday in Morgantown, West Virginia. The lead changed four times with the Mountaineers (9-5) using a five-run sixth inning to gain the advantage for good at 9-5.

It was the first series sweep of Kent State (4-10) by a single opponent since 2015. Freshman Ryan Bergert (GlenOak) earned his first collegiate win, pitching two innings of relief for the Mountaineers.

Nick Elsen went 3-for-5 and hit two of Kent State's three home runs. Pete Schuler led off the Flashes' three-run fourth inning with a solo home run.

 

GYMNASTICS

Kent State Quad

Kent State honored its four seniors against North Carolina, Rutgers and Ball State. The Golden Flashes finished third with a score of 192.550.

Senior Kennedy Plude concluded her M.A.C. Center career with a first-place finish on beam with a score of 9.875. Classmate Sarah Lippowitsch tied for first on bars (9.825) and senior Dara Williams was third on vault and ninth on bars.
