Detroit Tigers right-hander Jordan Zimmermann lost his perfect game in Toronto with two outs in the seventh inning on an infield single.

Teoscar Hernandez hit a grounder up the middle that second baseman Josh Harrison smothered, but the throw was late and wide Thursday.

That was the only hit Zimmermann allowed in seven sparkling innings of a 2-0 win. He struck out four and threw only 70 pitches.

Hall of Famer Bob Feller is the only pitcher to throw a no-hitter on Opening Day, doing it for the Indians against the Chicago White Sox on April 16, 1940. The Indians won 1-0.

Zimmermann pitched a no-hitter for the Washington Nationals in 2014 against the Miami Marlins.

Yankees on mend

The New York Yankees put six players on the 10-day injured list to open the season, including right-handers Dellin Betances (right shoulder impingement) and Luis Severino (right rotator cuff inflammation), outfielder Aaron Hicks (lower back strain) and shortstop Didi Gregorius (Tommy John elbow surgery).

Meanwhile, left-hander CC Sabathia started serving his five-game suspension for hitting Tampa Bay Rays batter Jesus Sucre with a pitch in his last regular season start of 2018.

Pitcher to see expert

Los Angeles Angels left-hander Andrew Heaney will see a doctor after feeling something in his elbow during a bullpen session this week.

Heaney, who had Tommy John surgery in 2016, had been experiencing discomfort in the elbow and missed a week earlier this month.

"I'm a little concerned," manager Brad Ausmus said.
