Flashes fall on road

Youngstown State scored in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings before walking off in the 11th as the Penguins downed visiting Kent State 4-3 in a nonconference matchup.

The Golden Flashes (11-15) took their first lead with a two-run fourth inning in which Pete Schuler scored on a wild pitch moments before Josh Hollander's sacrifice fly scored Justin Kirby.

The Penguins (5-23) answered in the fifth inning to briefly tie it back up.

Schuler singled home Ben Carew in the seventh inning to regain a one-run advantage at 3-2. Carew finished the day 4-of-5 at the plate with a triple, a walk and one run scored.

Down to its last at-bat, Youngstown State pushed another run across in the ninth on an RBI single and then the winning run in the 11th on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
