Renee Powell, head pro at Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, has been elected the first at-large member of the PGA of America board of directors.

Powell, 72, will serve on a board of 22 through the 2020 annual meeting. A member of the PGA Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame board of trustees, Powell was the second African-American to compete on the LPGA Tour and in 2015 was among seven elected as the first female honorary members of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club.

“I’ve been a PGA Member for 23 years and have witnessed many changes that have moved things forward to make our association more inclusive. This is a big honor,” Powell said in a prepared statement.
