BASEBALL

Hudson 1, Cuyahoga Falls 0

Since coach Buddy Dice joined the Hudson staff in 2001, he said he doesn't remember an Explorers pitcher having a day like Matthew Aukerman had on Monday in Cuyahoga Falls.

The senior right-hander faced the minimum 21 batters in throwing a perfect game to beat the Black Tigers in Suburban League National Conference action. Aukerman (2-0) did not allow a hit, a walk or a batter to reach base and struck out 10.

"We made some tremendous plays defensively behind him, including Blake Hartline throwing out their leadoff man from right field to start the game," said Dice, whose team improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

"We were lucky to score one in the first. Ryan Mitcheltree walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Grant Gedeon's [two-out] single to right."

Alex Valente (1-2) was the hard-luck loser for the Black Tigers (1-7, 1-3). The junior right-hander threw 95 pitches in seven innings, allowing the one run on four hits and striking out seven.

Wadsworth 2, North Royalton 0

Nick Lallathin beat Tim Baird in a pitchers' duel as the host Grizzlies won a Suburban League National Conference game. Lallathin (3-0) pitched a three-hitter and struck out six.

Baird also struck out six and allowed just four hits, but North Royalton's defense, which committed three errors, allowed two unearned runs in the third inning.

Wadsworth's Brock Snowball went 2-for-3 and had the game's only RBI.

Twinsburg 3, Stow 2 (8)

The host Tigers (7-0, 4-0) erased Stow's 2-0 lead when Nick Bonnizzio hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. In the eighth, Zach Carinci hit a two-out, walk-off single to score Joe Procop, who opened the inning with a double.

Ellet 6, Firestone 3

Devin Shaw and Sam Beswetherick each had two RBI to lead the Orangemen (5-3, 5-0) to a City Series win at Firestone.

Manchester 9, Triway 1

Michael Paljich allowed one hit and no walks in seven innings to lead the Panthers to a Principals Athletic Conference win over visiting Triway.  Paljich also hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

CVCA 7, Fairless 2

Christian Isaacs and Josh Junko each collected three RBI to back winning pitcher Taylor Sobiech as CVCA prevailed in a PAC road game.

Louisville 6, Canton McKinley 4

Leadoff hitter Bryce Zuppe hit his first home run of the season for the Leopards (7-2). Zuppe hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Louisville up two runs. Jordan Shearer improved to 3-1 and Cam Lingle earned his second save of the year.

Springfield 11, Woodridge 8 (8)

Brayden Wigal and Caitlin Raid each drove in three runs for Woodridge (3-5, 2-2).

Northwest 8, Tuslaw 6
