UA second after first round
The University of Akron was two shots behind Drexel in second place in the 20-team Wildcat Spring Invitational after Monday's action at the White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Drexel shot a 12-under 272 in the opening round, followed by the Zips at 10 under. Lafayette and Colgate were tied for third at two over.
Senior Beau Bayerl shot a 5-under 66, and Elliot Grayson and Fabian Sunden were tied for fifth at 3-under for the Zips in their final regular-season event.
Grayson, who started on the first tee, bogeyed No. 16 to move to even-par. He then eagled 17 and birdied 18 for back-to-back 3s to finish his round.WOMEN'S GOLF
Nicholson leads Zips
Danielle Nicholson was second on the individual leaderboard to lead the University of Akron after the first two rounds of the Hoya Invitational in Beallsville, Maryland. The Zips were fourth in the eight-team field at 37 over, well behind leader Georgetown (16 over) and narrowly trailing second-place Richmond and Ball State (32 over).
Georgetown's Christina Parsells was even after two rounds, followed by Nicholson a stroke back. Nicholson shot 72 to open the day, followed by a 73 featuring five birdies and six bogeys in the second round.
