Zips fall in walk-off

The University of Akron fought back with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score but gave up a walk-off home run in a 6-5 Mid-American Conference loss at Buffalo on Wednesday.

Trailing 5-1 heading into their final at-bat, the Zips (8-22-2, 2-9) got two runs on a sacrifice fly by Laura Lakins and a single by sophomore Lauren Holdsworth.

Sydney Jascoe followed with a two-run home run to tie it at 5-5, but third baseman Alicia Peters drilled a walk-off shot to left-center in the bottom of the inning to win it for Buffalo (7-23-1, 4-3-1).

Scali twirls another gem

Kent State pitcher Andrea Scali dominated in the circle, tossing a complete game in a 1-0 MAC victory at Ohio University.

The win kept the Golden Flashes (17-18, 7-2) atop the MAC standings.

Scali (11-7), a redshirt freshman, gave up six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

The lone run came in the sixth inning when Brenna Brownfield flew out to right field. The Bobcats outfielder lobbed the ball back to the infield, but a throwing error by third baseman Alex Day allowed Kent State's Kennadie Goth to score all the way from second base.
