Hudson enters mid-April undefeated in baseball and softball.

Hudson is 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the Suburban League National Conference in baseball with a roster featuring 15 seniors.

The Explorers opened the season in the Baseball Beach Bash at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, with wins over Reavis (Ill.), Niceville (Fla.), Clayton Northmont, Dayton Oakwood  and host Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee. Victories over Brecksville, North Royalton, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Twinsburg and Archbishop Hoban have followed.

“Senior Parker Tallman is currently 3-0 pitching,” Hudson coach Buddy Dice said. “Senior Matthew Aukerman is 2-0 with the perfect game last week against Cuyahoga Falls, junior Sylvan Wiley is 2-0 and senior Aiden Samuel is 2-0 as well. Junior Joe Whitman is 1-0 with four saves and senior Bryce McClure is 1-0.”

Grant Gedeon and Robbie Pacsi are Hudson’s catchers. The other infielders are Nolan O’Connell, Zack Palmer, Nicholas Teodosio, Blake Farley and Drew Lightner.

Hudson’s top outfielders are Blake Hartline, Ryan Mitcheltree, Brendan Palmer, Joe Caspar and Jack Seiple.

“This is a very close-knit group who worked extremely hard in the offseason to get to this point,” Dice said. “We understand what it takes to compete for a league championship, a district title and even beyond that.”

Hudson is 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Suburban National in softball with wins over Garfield Heights, Copley, Brecksville, North Royalton, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow and Tallmadge and two victories over Crestwood.

“Our pitching has been outstanding with sophomore Maddie Roukey and junior Olivia Stefanoni,” Hudson coach Jeff Kurtz said. “Maddie is 4-0 and Olivia is 5-0.”

Roukey, who has 45 strikeouts and not allowed an earned run in 24 innings, also has a .529 batting average with 18 hits and nine RBI.

Stefanoni has 27 strikeouts and a 1.40 ERA in 35 innings, and is also hitting .419 with 13 hits and nine RBI.

Cami Madar is the lone senior on Hudson’s roster, which also features impact hitters Stefanoni, Roukey, Katie Carrillo, Laurel Gomersal, Sadie Mrakuzic, Ava Butina, Paige Albrecht, Macy Peck, Aubrey Hill and Hannah McCray.

Peck is hitting .519 with 14 hits and 12 RBI, and Carrillo is hitting .500 with 12 hits.

“We graduated five seniors last year, so we had a lot of holes to fill,” Kurtz said. “We have filled them with some freshmen. This is a young group that is playing really well.”

In boys tennis, Hudson is 6-1 with wins over Brecksville, Nordonia, North Royalton, Strongsville, Cuyahoga Falls and Lakewood St. Edward, and a loss to Revere.

Harrsha Congivaram, Rob Tobin, Spencer Rodgers, Kevin Si, Wendell Wu, Alex Joslyn, Will Backlin and Sam Diener are the Explorers' top players.

“Depending on the night you play, performances have been up and down because of the weather,” Hudson coach Tim Morgan said. “We have been lucky in the sense that we have won six matches, but we know we are all still doing our best to get better.”
