The moves from school to school have not slowed down Firestone senior Saleia Porter, the daughter of a military man.

Porter sprinted on a cold and windy Monday in Akron against City Series rivals Buchtel and host Ellet, and won the girls 100 meters (12.3 seconds), 200 (26.5), 400 (1:02.7) and 800 (2:44).

Firestone’s girls beat Buchtel 87-44 and Ellet 78-47.

Porter, who has a 3.38 GPA, was born in Akron and returned home before this school year. In between, she lived in Massachusetts, Louisiana, Maryland and Kentucky. Her father, Donald, is a lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard, and her mother, Sequoia, is a teacher.

Firestone is Porter’s fourth high school in four years. Last year, she attended Fort Knox High School in Kentucky and won Class 1-A state titles in the 400 (55.91) and 200 (25.27) after going to Forestville and Dr. Henry A. Wise in Maryland.

“It was harder to move when I was younger because I didn’t really understand what was going on, but over the years I have gotten used to it, honestly,” Porter said. “It is kind of like, ‘Where are we going next?’ You definitely grow and mature faster. Luckily, I have been to very kind places where the people were very nice.”

Firestone girls coach Ron Hayes described Porter as “an athlete that comes around maybe once every four years that can compete in that many events.”

Other winners on the girls side for the Falcons were Reilly Dorn (3,200, 13:43), Jordan Baith (shot put, 36-6, and discus, 106-4) and Shiane Lathan (long jump, 15-5).

Buchtel freshman DaMya Barker won the girls 100 hurdles (16.0), 300 hurdles (48.9), 800 relay (1:48) and 1,600 relay (4:20). The Griffins also won the 3,200 relay (10:43) and 400 relay (53.1). Other Buchtel girl relay runners were Dana Beasley, Erriona Portis, Gabrielle Darden, Star Griffin, London Green, Drew Oliver, Dyamond Myers, Acaira Johnson, Tayonia Whitaker and Trayonna James.

Firestone also swept on the boys side, defeating Buchtel 73-39 and Ellet 74-45.

Individual winners for the Falcons and coach Eric Mitchell were Gavin Cornelious (shot put, 43-3), Shawn Gates (long jump, 18-8) and Ryan Allison (300 hurdles, 41.6 seconds).

Firestone also won the 400- (46.2), 800- (1:39), 1,600- (3:48) and 3,200-meter (9:12) relays with Martin Whitley, James Boykins, Sam Degroff, Ian Huber, Deron Postway, Josh Mitchell, Davier Garrett, Kolin Smith, Alex Knight, Gates and Allison.

Buchtel’s winning boys were Marquel Cook (400, 55.3), Andrew “Chase” Powers (200, 23.3), Q’Aiden Marks (3,200, 11:50) and Julian Grimes (100, 11.3).

Ellet’s Davon Grisby-Walker won the boys 800 (2:12) and the 3,200 (11:38), Diamond Fisk triumphed in the 100 (11.4) and the 200 (23.5), Cam’Ron Winters crossed first in the 110 hurdles (15.5), Isaiah Bostick won the discus (121-0) and Cory Breiding won the 3,200 (5:02).
