Thunder 8, RubberDucks 6
The Thunder scored three runs in the seventh inning to build a 7-3 lead and held on for a series-opening win over the RubberDucks Monday night in Trenton, N.J.
The RubberDucks led 3-2 in the sixth before a two-run home run by Chris Gittens off Ducks starter Tanner Tully (0-1) put the Thunder in front for good. Gittens gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings.
The Thunder (7-3) then pulled away in the seventh with three runs off Ducks reliever Rob Kaminsky, and added another run on Jorge Saez's solo home run off Brennan Bernardino in the eighth.
The Ducks (3-8) got a run back in the eighth on an RBI single by Connor Marabell, and loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth with Daniel Johnson at bat representing the tying run. Johnson hit the first pitch he saw to center for a two-run single off reliever Daniel Alvarez, who then closed the game out with a strikeout of Marabell.
