Optimist Meet

Twinsburg won the boys and girls team titles at the Optimist Meet at Austintown Fitch on Saturday. The girls easily dispatched 28 other schools, winning by 45 points over second-place Stow. The boys, meanwhile, edged Bedford 65.5-64 with Stow third with 62 points.

Alyssa Willis, Mariah Myles, Nya Bussey and Nia Robinson won the girls 800-meter relay for Twinsburg by seven seconds over Cuyahoga Falls. In the 1,600 relay, Myles, Bussey and Robinson were joined by Julia Henderson for a winning time of 4:07.93. Robinson and Myles finished one-two in the girls 400, and Trisha Singh won the girls long jump for Twinsburg.

Hornet Relays

With victories in the 800-meter sprint medley and the discus relays, Northwest won the girls team title in East Canton. The host Hornets won the boys team crown ahead of Lake.

 

BASEBALL

North Canton Hoover 4,

Archbishop Hoban 1

Hoover's three-run first inning set the table for a nonleague win in North Canton. Connor Ashby's two singles and a double led the Vikings (12-9), and Mack Timbrook hit a single and triple to account for two out of four hits for the Knights (6-11).

Firestone 3-6,

Kent Roosevelt 1-4

Down 4-3 in the top of the sixth, Firestone scored twice to take the lead and then held on for a win in the second game of a doubleheader. Shawn Gates scored the tying the run on a single by Steve Johnston, and Connor O'Brien singled home Johnston to put the Falcons (15-7) up by a run en route to victory in the second game.

The Falcons won the opener behind Joseph Durkee (5-1), who pitched his second complete game of the year.

Green 6,

Austintown Fitch 1

Trenton Autz (2-1) and three relievers held the Falcons (16-7) to three hits as the Bulldogs (16-7) notched a nonleague win.

Rootstown 6, CVCA 2

The Rovers only had three hits but took advantage of four Royals errors to post a nonleague win at Cene Park in Struthers. Thayne Ocel doubled and drove in two runs for Rootstown.
