Starter Matthew Aukerman went five innings to improve to 5-0 and Bryce McClure and Joe Whitman each pitched an inning of scoreless relief to help get the Explorers (19-4) a nonleague road victory on Saturday.

 

Northwest 1, Cloverleaf 0 (8)

Jackson Ogozalek's second hit of the game made a winner of Jordan Mick (3-3), who pitched a complete game and struck out 11.

Brandon Szekely pinch ran for Corey Kohler, who doubled for Northwest (13-11) with two outs in the top of the eighth for his third hit of the game, and scored on Ogozalek's single.
 

Lake 6, East Canton 1

Andy Zacharyj hit two home runs in a home win by the Blue Streaks (15-10) over the Hornets.

 

SOFTBALL

Wadsworth 9,

North Royalton 2

The Grizzlies erased a 1-0 deficit in the top of the seventh inning with a nine-run inning to claim a Suburban League National Conference victory over host North Royalton.

Corner infielders Corynn Rench and Jessi Voitko each scored twice in the seventh for Wadsworth (19-6, 11-3). Voitko had two hits and two RBI in the inning.

Emily Cingle (15-2) limited the Bears to two runs on nine hits, two walks and nine strikeouts.

 

Hudson 12-9 , Nordonia 0-3

Junior left-hander Olivia Stefanoni held Nordonia to three runs on seven hits and struck out 10 as the Explorers (18-1, 11-1) completed a Suburban League National doubleheader sweep after a run-rule win in the first game.

Stefanoni (9-0) also drove in two runs in the first inning on a double and added another with an RBI groundout in the fourth.

 

Lake Center Christian 15,

Kenmore-Garfield 10

Macy Kline picked up her first win of the season as the Tigers (6-16) overcame a 9-0 first-inning deficit. Kline helped herself with two singles, a double and three RBI.

 

TENNIS

Canton Division I Sectional

Green's Logan Langovsky won the sectional singles title to earn the top seed heading to the Akron Division I District. Langovsky dropped the first set in the title match but rallied to win the final two sets.
