The Browns signed running back D'Ernest Johnson and waived undrafted rookie running back L.J. Scott on Thursday.

A Youngstown native and Hubbard High School graduate who played at Michigan State University, Scott had just signed with the Browns on Monday. However, WFMJ TV in Youngstown reported Wednesday Scott had decided against playing football and left the team.

Johnson, 5-foot-10 and 208 pounds, spent last season as a member of the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football. When the league ceased operations, he ranked third in rushing with 372 yards on 64 carries (5.8 average) and two touchdowns.

Johnson played at the University of South Florida from 2014-17 and became the program's all-time leader in all-purpose yardage (4,186). He racked up 1,796 rushing yards. He also set school records for a running back with 73 receptions for 909 yards. He scored 29 total touchdowns.
