KSU rallies for win

Cam Touchette scored on a sacrifice fly by Kian O'Brien in the top of the ninth to help Kent State defeat Eastern Michigan 5-4 on Friday for its second consecutive Mid-American Conference victory and win the series over the Eagles.

Junior John Matthews (5-1) earned his fourth consecutive win out of the bullpen, firing 4 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts.

Golden Flashes leadoff hitter Ben Carew extended his hitting streak to 17 games with two singles. He has reached base in the last 32 games.

 

WOMEN'S GOLF

KSU struggles in NCAA

Kent State shot a 33-over 325 on the first day of the NCAA national championships and was at 23rd in the 24-team field.

The long, par-73 course at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., presented challenges for all teams, as first-place Texas shot a 10-over 302.

Pimnipa Panthong carded a team-best 79 for the Golden Flashes.
