CLEVELAND — Neil Ramirez is the odd man out amongst a crowded group.
The Indians officially recalled Adam Plutko to start Saturday's game, forcing a roster move within the Indians' nine-man bullpen. Ramirez had his name called, being designated for assignment in the midst of a poor stretch.
Ramirez this season has posted a 5.40 ERA, 6.48 FIP and 1.620 WHIP. He's struck out 18 but walked nine in 16 2/3 innings. And, with the recent additions of A.J. Cole and Tyler Clippard to the bullpen, there wasn't a spot left.
"I think we just felt like where we’re at in our bullpen, Cole’s a newer guy, can give us a little more length," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "Just feel like Neil had his moments for sure where he could really got hot, it was just hard for him to sustain it. And I have no doubt that I bet you somebody will claim him because he still throws mid-90s, he’s got a breaking ball. We just thought we had other guys ahead of him.”
