Flying Squirrels 5, RubberDucks 2

The Richmond Flying Squirrels scored three unearned runs in the first inning, built a 5-0 lead through two innings and held on Sunday to earn a split in a four-game series with the visiting RubberDucks.

The Ducks (19-23) were held to just one hit — Wilson Garcia's leadoff double in the seventh — after Nellie Rodriguez's two-run home run made it 5-2 in the third inning. Ernie Clement finished with two of the Ducks' four hits.

Ducks starter Jake Paulson (2-2) settled down after the first two innings to retire 11 of the next 12 hitters he faced, and left with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth. Reliever David Speer then induced a flyout to get out of the jam.

The Ducks' Daniel Johnson and Connor Marabell were held hitless, ending hitting streaks of 11 and 10 games, respectively.
