The NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers placed shortstop Corey Seager on the injured list with a left hamstring strain.
The move made Thursday is the result of Seager getting hurt in the ninth inning of a loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. The Dodgers say he had an MRI that revealed a strain less severe than initially believed.
"I was just talking to him today and the thing that's disappointing and disheartening for him is that there were no signs of this," manager Dave Roberts said. "So, as far as fatigue, soreness, any type of strain a little bit before that to kind of give a heads-up. But I think it was kind of out of the blue."
The injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Seager, who had a season-best, nine-game hitting streak during which he was batting .459 with seven doubles, one home run and nine RBI.
For the season, the 25-year-old infielder is batting .278 with 21 doubles, eight homers and 38 RBI.
Seager missed most of last season after having Tommy John elbow and left hip surgeries.
The Dodgers activated infielder Matt Beaty from the 10-day IL.
Phillies pick up
The Phillies have acquired utilityman Brad Miller from the New York Yankees for cash.
Miller will join Philadelphia in Atlanta for a three-game series that starts Friday night. He hit .250 (9-for-36) with one homer and four RBI for the Indians this season and was batting .294 with 10 homers and 29 RBI for Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
Miller gives the Phillies a left-handed bat with power off the bench. He hit 30 homers for Tampa Bay in 2016, but only has 17 in 604 at-bats since his breakout year.
back in lineup
Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado was in the lineup Thursday after leaving Wednesday's game after getting hit with a pitch on the left forearm.
Arenado said he was a little stiff and sore, and he would test his arm during batting practice before Thursday's game against the San Diego Padres.
"It's going to be stiff for a while, a little sore and bruised but something I have to play through," he said. "It's bruised but I can play through a bruise.
"We have a day off Monday so I should be fine the next four games and hopefully the day off will help me big time."
