Noteworthy scenes from Thursday's training camp practice.

- The wide receiver wearing No. 10 showed up all over the place.

Jaelen Strong, a third-round pick of the Texans in 2015, caught a quick out from Baker Mayfield in a cameo with the "ones."

Another time, Strong leaped on a sideline route against cornerback Phillip Gaines and landed hard, flat on his back, while struggling to reel in a tipped ball.

The catch of the day was by Strong in the right corner of the end zone. It appeared there was no way he could get clear of Terrance Mitchell and stay inbounds with the ball, but he managed to do both.

- Antonio Callaway has a way of looking nonchalant both during and after plays. One time it helped him. He was running down the right sideline against cornerback Tavierre Thomas, giving no clue a Baker Mayfield bomb was in the air. Mayfield dropped it right in the cup as Callaway, apparently concentrating quite well, caught it in stride and kept sprinting.

- Rookie linebacker Tione Takitaki continues to lead the team in primal screams after routine practice plays.

- Sometimes the fields at the team complex look like country club fairways. As camp grinds on, splotches of brown are all over the place, and the surface seems unusually hard.

- Baker Mayfield seems to get better and better at throwing strikes after stepping up in the pocket. He made an awkward lunge away from the rush and was in an odd-looking gallup when he let go a ball that fluttered but hit Jarvis Landry in stride down the right side.

- Nick Chubb caught 20 of the 29 passes for which he was targeted as a 2018 rookie. Look for the numbers to go up.

Coaches are moving Chubb all over the place. On one play, he lined up left, in the slot, ran a crisp slant, caught a Baker Mayfield pass in stride, and made a dazzling move into the clear.

- If you asked Damarious Randall, wideout Derrick Willies pulled a fast one by chucking cornerback Lenzy Pipkins away. If you asked the official, it was pass interference on Pipkins during a throw from Drew Stanton.

Willies came up with a catch. No one could dispute that.

- Coaches want talented tight end David Njoku to stay plugged in all the time. It isn't happening yet.

After one play Thursday, Baker Mayfield said, "David! You gotta go THERE." As opposed to where Njoku wound up.

- Practice grew sleepy in the heat as the crowd in the big east grandstand group yawned.

Running backs coach Stump Mitchell sensed the drag and said, "C'mon! Let's make some plays!"

- Wideout Ishmael Hyman decided he wasn't going to catch up with a perceived overthrow from Stanton.

A coach thought otherwise and yelled, "Keep running!"

- Duke Johnson dressed but did not participate in team drills. Late in practice, he was carrying on a friendly conversation with Kareem Hunt.
