2018: Washington was 5-3 in the first half and 2-6 in the second half; the Browns were 2-5-1 in the first half and 5-3 in the second half.

COACHES: Jay Gruden is 35-45-1 in five years as Washington's head coach; former Browns QBs coach Kevin O'Connell is offensive coordinator; Greg Manusky is defensive coordinator. Freddie Kitchens makes his debut as Browns head coach with Todd Monken as offensive coordinator and Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator.

QB vs. QB: Washington training camp has been a three-way battle among (in the order listed on the team depth chart) ex-Brown Colt McCoy, veteran Case Keenum and rookie No. 15 overall pick Dwayne Haskins (Ohio State). ... McCoy was 6-15 in three years as a Brown and has gone 1-5 since leaving. His career passer rating is 78.9. Baker Mayfield posted a 93.7 rating as a Browns rookie. Garrett Gilbert, 28, could get a substantial playing shift. He played in all four preseason games for Carolina last year and posted a 93.6 rating.

STAR GAZING: New Brown Odell Beckham Jr. didn't face Cleveland in the Giants' preseason opener last year; he didn't play until the regular-season opener. A Washington nemesis, Beckham had an eight-catch, 136-yard game against it last October; he produced a 143-yard, three-TD game the first time he faced the team as a 2014 rookie. ... New Brown Olivier Vernon was in on two sacks against Washington's Mark Sanchez last December.

ROOKIE WATCH: Washington dipped into the Olentangy for Haskins and also his former Buckeye teammate Terry McLaurin at No. 76 overall. McLaurin averaged 20 yards on 35 catches for Ohio State in 2018. Haskins led Ohio State to a 13-1 season. Linebacker Montez Sweat (Mississippi State) was a No. 26 overall pick. ... Making their Browns debuts will be CB Greedy Williams (No. 46 overall), linebacker Sione Takitaki (No. 80), DB Sheldrick Redwine (No. 119) and LB Mack Wilson (No. 155).

FOR KICKS: Greg Joseph was cut by the Dolphins last September and joined the Browns Sept. 17. He went 17 of 20 on field goals but missed four point-after kicks. Rookie Austin Seibert has a chance to unseat him.

NEXT: The Browns will spend much of next week practicing in Indianapolis before taking on the Colts in a Saturday night game on Aug. 17.
