Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. believes the New York Giants traded him to Cleveland out of spite, Beckham said in a Sports Illustrated cover story posted online Tuesday.

“This wasn’t no business move,” Beckham told Ben Baskin for the article in the Aug. 26-Sept. 2 issue entitled "Welcome to Cleveland, Where the Browns Are True Contenders." “This was personal. They thought they’d send me here to die.”

Beckham also told Baskin during the interview that the Giants received better offers and still decided on the deal offered by Browns General Manager John Dorsey, who gave the Giants the 17th and 95th choices in the 2019 draft and safety Jabrill Peppers. Beckham told SI he knew he would be traded, but never got the chance to discuss preferred destinations with the Giants.

The Giants declined comment to SI about Beckham’s remarks.

Beckham’s close friend and former LSU teammate Jarvis Landry said virtually the same thing about Dolphins coach Adam Gase trading him to the Browns in March, 2018.

“I just felt like, for some reason, Adam sent me here to die,” Landry said during an August, 2018 interview with ESPN.com’s Elizabeth Merrill.
